I feel your pain. I don't like it when people (such as my really close friends) think that having a job is easy; it ain't worth shit. I had a part-time job, working every week (weekends i had off, luckily) and i had to go in at 5am to 6:30am, right before school. it was a pain, cause i only got 6 hours of sleep each night :(. I quit, because i was saving up for brawl on the wii. i worked for like 3 months, and it was worth it, as in the pay. dude, im 15 and i had a job. i always wanted a job, but didn't know how tough it would be. a cat clinic doesn't seem like a hard job, but it is, trust me.
but as for game stores, i truly despise GameStop (no offense). there's a better game store in my town, who's discount card is $5 with 20% off with trade ins and discount off of games, too. but at gamestop, it costs $20 for a 10% discount, which is ridiculous.
